Award-winning poet Kazim Ali calls Kind “essential reading.” According to Primack, it’s a book “for anyone concerned about the animal world and our place in it at this environmental/social/political moment.” She added, “We have powerful art of various genres on this subject; this is an opportunity to add poetry to that list.” Winning praise from writers like Carol J. Adams (“The Sexual Politics of Meat”), Marisa Miller Wolfson (“Vegucated”), and Nickole Brown (“The Donkey Elegies”), poems in this collection include “Holstein,” written from the perspective of a cow in the dairy industry, and “Climate Change,” on the impact of humans on the world around us. Other poems involve wild animals and companion animals, among others.
