An evening with Chen Chen, Nathan McClain & Allison Benis White


Chen Chen is a Chinese-American gay poet and author of When I Grow Up I Want to Be a List of Further Possibilities, which won the A. Poulin, Jr. Poetry Prize, the GLCA New Writers Award, and was longlisted for the National Book Award. The collection has been named one of the best of 2017 by The Brooklyn Rail, Buzzfeed Books,Entropy, and Library Journal. Poets & Writers Magazine featured him in their Inspiration Issue as one of “Ten Poets Who Will Change the World.” He has also been featured on the PBS Newshour, NPR, and Out.com.

Nathan McClain’s debut collection is Scale (Four Way Books, 2017). He is the recipient of the 2017 Gregory Pardlo Fellowship from The Frost Place, and a graduate of Warren Wilson’s MFA Program for Writers. A Cave Canem fellow, his poems have recently appeared or are forthcoming in Callaloo, Ploughshares, Broadsided, The Southeast Review, Tinderbox, and elsewhere. He lives in Brooklyn and teaches creative writing at Drew University.

Allison Benis White is the author of Please Bury Me in This (Four Way Books 2017) which was just named the winner of the 2018 Rilke Prize. Her previous collection, Small Porcelain Head, was selected by Claudia Rankine for the Levis Prize in Poetry and named a finalist for the PEN Center USA Literary Award and the California Book Award. Her first book, Self-Portrait with Crayon, received the Cleveland State University Poetry Center Book Prize. She has received honors and awards from the San Francisco Foundation, the Academy of American Poets, The Writer’s Center, and Poets & Writers magazine. She is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Creative Writing at the University of California, Riverside.
