All That Jazz: Hoff-Barthelson Music School Jazz Students Perform in Chase Park

Students to perform cross section of American jazz standards and music of Frank Zappa

Students from the Jazz Studies Program of Hoff-Barthelson Music School will perform a program of original and jazz standards in Scarsdale’s Chase Park, 32 Chase Road, Scarsdale, on Sunday, June 5, 2016, at 5:00 pm. In the event of inclement weather, the performance will be held at the Music School, 25 School Lane, Scarsdale.

“All That Jazz” will feature several of the Music School’s student jazz ensembles performing a variety of jazz standards, the music of Frank Zappa and pieces composed and arranged by the students and faculty. Jazz faculty members will join the students for several pieces in a variety of instrumental combinations.

Hoff-Barthelson’s Jazz Studies Program is under the direction of jazz saxophonist Ed Palermo, a well-known performer and recording artist in the jazz world. Recently, Palermo was named to The Daily Beast’s list of “The 40 Most Intriguing Musicians of 2016” for his work in rock repertory big band. The jazz faculty includes several of the most distinguished jazz artists in the New York area.

Hoff-Barthelson incorporates private lessons, jazz ensembles and jazz improvisation, arranging and theory into its comprehensive curriculum. The more than sixty students who study jazz at the School are provided with the opportunity to perform several times throughout the year on student recitals and during the School’s Music Festivals.
