Adult Painting Workshop

Exploring Rye through Paint: A Plein-Air Adventure

Instructor: Carol Douglas
Friday, May 11, 9:00 am – 4:00 pm
Saturday, May 12, 9:00 am – 4:00 pm
Adults
Have you watched the Painters on Location artists and wondered whether you could paint en plein-air too? This two-day workshop will focus on painting outdoors in beautiful Rye. Learn to translate the three-dimensional landscape to a two-dimensional plane. We’ll focus on simplifying forms, planning a good composition, gathering the necessary visual information from life, and interpreting color relationships. We’ll work on design, value, shapes, and edges. Weather permitting, we will paint outdoors both days, with access to boats, buildings, the beach, and nature—in short, all the great things Rye has to offer! Demonstrations, personal instruction, and critiques are all part of the process. All media, all levels welcome. Limited to 12 people. Carol L. Douglas teaches a popular Acadian workshop, Sea & Sky, and other workshops nationwide. She paints en plein-air in juried events throughout the Northeast. Her many plein-air road trips are documented on her top-rated art blog, Watch Me Paint. She has painted in Rye’s Painters on Location since its inception.
