At twenty, we pose the question, “What is the Universal Golden Key for jazz musicians?” It is experiencing and expressing – in the present moment – an urgent, spiritual purpose and freedom, and sharing it with you, the appreciative listener.
During the Jazz Festival, we proudly present musicians that possess that Golden Key: Souza, Marsalis, Carter, Tolliver, Iyer, Loueke, and Makowicz, to name a few. And we revisit the tremendous work of Charles Mingus 50 years ago – in 1963 – when he was in top creative form as composer, musician and bandleader.
