Paul Carlon Latin Quartet

On Friday, September 25th Alvin & Friends helps kick off ArtsFest with the Paul Carlon Latin Quartet in Roscoe’s Room.  Saxophonist/arranger Paul Carlon’s Afro-Latin tribute to Billy Strayhorn, Rumba is a Lovesome Thing (Zoho Music), made waves on its release in 2013; now for the 2015 centennial of Strayhorn’s birth Carlon brings his all-star quartet version to Alvin & Friends for a night of Caribbean sabor and Ellingtonian romanticism. The group features Grammy nominee Wilson “Chembo” Corniel on congas, Alex Ayala on Bass and Mike Eckroth on piano. The evening promises “Latin Jazz at its very best, exquisite arranging and improvising. You are just not going to find musicians that understand the Strayhorn language and Afro-Cuban music with this level of depth. Outstanding CD, cannot recommend it enough.” — Pedro Giraudo, Bassist/Composer. $10 cover, two drink minimum.
