Lecture/Recital: The Flying Dutchman or the Curse of Richard Wagner
Michael Shapiro, composer and conductor of The Chappaqua orchestra will preview the Orchestra’s upcoming production of excerpts from Richard Wagner’s The Flying Dutchman.
Mr. Shapiro’s talk will reveal the background of Wagner’s choice of the subject of the Flying Dutchman, its origins in myth and literature, and how the opera set the stage for the great opera composer’s later and larger works.
Mr. Shapiro will play excerpts on the piano with guest soloists to illustrate the ideas set out in his talk.
