Yonkers Philharmonic February 2015
Come join the Yonkers Philharmonic with returning guest conductor, Ariel Rudiakov, for an exploration of Tchaikovshy’s Symphony #2 (the Little Russian). The concert starts with Antonin Dvorak’s Carnival Overture. Then the soloist, Joana Genova, celebrates her roots by introducing us to Pantcho Vladigerov’s Bulgarian Rhapsody Vardar. A fiery patriotic work, it has become, in the words of an admiring critic “the Bulgarian equivalent of Chopin’s Polonaise in A Major”.
Come watch a soloist tune down (in time and in tune) in the midst of the piece and then tune back up without missing a beat. A tour de force before you add in the rest of the technique and musicality necessary to carry off this piece.
