Christo: Himmel Award & Lecture
Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s installations are unmistakable. Their epic, often controversial, always provocative, monumental artworks have redefined the promise and potential of environmental public art. World-renowned projects include Wrapped Reichstag in Berlin, Running Fence in California, The Pont Neuf Wrapped in Paris and The Gates in New York City. While Jeanne-Claude passed away in 2009, Christo continues their current projects Over The River in Colorado and The Mastaba in Abu Dhabi.
The Katonah Museum of Art’s Himmel Award is named in honor of Betty Himmel, who was instrumental in defining the direction and mission of the Museum and has served as an arts advocate and community leader for many years. The Himmel Award recognizes artists, scholars, and educators who have demonstrated their ability to incite and provoke new thinking
in the arts.
