Travel Writing Workshop with David Farley

The role of the travel writer is to go one step beyond the realm of the average tourist. Learn how to do just that—from conducting pre-trip research and spotting a story on the road to making the perfect pitch to magazine editors and writing a publishable piece. Consider story ideas and the elements of good—and not-so-good—travel writing, debunk some of its myths, create structure for your story, discuss the business side of travel writing, and complete in-class writing exercises.

DAVID FARLEY is an award-winning food and travel writer. His writing appears regularly in the New York Times, National Geographic Traveler, Bon Appetit, and he’s a Contributing Editor at AFAR magazine. He’s the author of An Irreverent Curiosity: In Search of the Strangest Relic in Italy’s Oddest Town, which is currently being made into a documentary for National Geographic. He teaches writing at New York University.
