Notable Neighbors of New Castle Exhibit

Join us for on March 2 from 4:00-7:00 for the Opening Reception for Notable Neighbors in New Castle at the Horace Greeley House, 100 King Street, Chappaqua.  It is the New Castle Historical Society’s newest exhibit.

New Castle has been favored with many notable residents, past and present, who have made an impact locally and nationally.  Producers, directors, actors, and writers have found New Castle an ideal spot to live. Did you know that Peter Berg, director of Lone Survivor, grew up in Chappaqua?  Or that three of the famous Arkin family graduated from Horace Greeley High School?  Or that Broadway actress Kelli O’Hara lives in town?

Outstanding scientists from home and abroad have resided here while working with IBM and other research companies.  Business executives of major companies, sports figures of national recognition, musicians, and politicians have also made New Castle home.  Did you know that David Da-I Ho, a prominent aids researcher, Paul Iams, pet food company founder, Carrie Chapman Catt, famous suffragette, Leo Esaki, Nobel Prize winner, and Woody and Arlo Guthrie, folk singers, all called this community home?

This exhibit highlights some of these people who have lived in New Castle. However, it is impossible to include everyone in our limited space. Our “Notables Notebook” includes the entire list to date. If anyone has been omitted, please let us know.

Hours when the exhibit may be viewed are:  Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 1 – 4 PM or by appointment at 914-238-4666.  The exhibit will run through the mid-January 2015.  For more information please view the Society’s website:  www.newcastlehs.org
