Polishing Your Prose with Jonathan Vatner: (Zoom)
You’ve worked on your short story, essay, novel, or memoir for months if not years, and it’s ready to be sent out. Or is it? In this two-hour master class on refining prose, you’ll learn a dozen ways to make your sentences crisper and more dazzling, based on common errors and missteps observed over years of teaching and editing. We’ll address rhythm, sentence structure, wordiness, repetition, and familiar phrasings, and many other issues that might stop an agent or editor from taking the work seriously.
Students are encouraged to submit a page or two in advance to review together in class.
