Harrison Public Library presents “More to It,” a Solo Exhibit of Recent Work by Teresa Pereira

Exhibition is on display May 3, 2026 to June 5, 2026.

Gallery is open to the public during regular library hours.

Artist’s Statement:

Much of my work is painted in a highly figurative style in oil on wood. I focus on imagery that includes paintings within paintings, reflections, meta and recursive imagery, and messages hid-
den in shadows. I’m often interested in conveying interaction between a painting’s main subject and elements around that subject. Whether it’s the overflow of water, wind that appears to move
objects in a painting, or an object or person breaking from one pictorial space to another, there’s some aspect of movement or interaction. At first glance, many of my paintings look like straightforward still lives or interiors, but upon closer scrutiny, one realizes each has More to It.

About the Artist:

Teresa Pereira is an oil painter, high school art teacher, and graphic designer based in Yonkers,
NY. She actively exhibits in galleries in the Westchester area and its surrounds, and has had work shown at The Riverfront Gallery and Urban Studio Unbound in Yonkers, The Carriage Barns Art Center in New Canaan, Edward Hopper House in Nyack, The Gallery at the Rye Free Reading Room (solo show), Arts Westchester Gallery, Yonkers Arts Gallery, Pelham Art Center, and Yellow Studio in Cross River, among others. As a new member of the National Association of Women Artists, she is honored to have recently had work exhibited in the Trask Gallery at the prestigious National Arts Club in New York City.

In teaching art over the years—especially to teenagers—Teresa has learned a great deal about her own art. Witnessing the experience of “learning to make art” is continually an eye opening one, and she believes it has helped her expand her own skills.

Her style is highly figurative and realistic, but often with a slight to moderate hint of surrealism mixed in. She equally enjoy painting landscapes, portraits and still life—from life whenever possible, but also from photos. A lover of nature, her work often incorporates botanical elements.
