A Young Genius featuring the flutist Elena Rubin

On Sunday afternoon April 19, The Sanctuary Series located in the historic hamlet of South Salem will present a program entitled, A Young Genius featuring the radiant artistry of flutist Elena Rubin with works by Bach, Beethoven and Newman performed with Series co-artistic director Anthony Newman on piano who will also perform Bach’s Fantasia and Fugue in G minor on the organ.  The performance will be in the Sanctuary of the South Salem Presbyterian Church at 4 PM.

  • Sonata in B minor (BWV 1030) for flute and piano, Johann Sebastian Bach
  • Fantasia and Fugue in G minor for organ, Johann Sebastian Bach
  • Partita in C for flute and piano, Anthony Newman
  • Serenade for Flute and Piano in D major, Op. 41, Ludwig van Beethoven

Dubbed the “high priest of the harpsichord” by Time magazine, acclaimed keyboardist Anthony Newman is considered America’s foremost Bach interpreter.  Over his career he has collaborated with major artists including Wynton Marsalis, Itzhak Perlman, Kathleen Battle, Jean-Pierre Rampal, and Leonard Bernstein.  Up and coming flutist Elena Rubin has appeared at numerous festivals where she has been recognized including the Eastern Music Festival where she was a concerto competition winner. Active as a freelancer and a teacher she received a Master of Music from the New England Conservatory. Recently, she moved to Chicago to continue her studies under the tutelage of Stefán Ragnar Höskuldsson.
