Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana and Antonín Dvořák’s “Te Deum”

Westchester Choral Society and Hudson Chorale join voices for two performances featuring over 100 vocalists and a 34-member orchestra.

Friday, May 29 at 7 pm and Sunday May 31 at 3 pm

In Carmina Burana, Carl Orff transforms medieval poetry into an exuberant
journey through the vicissitudes of fortune, the beauties of spring, thrills of love, and
scenes of ribald merriment. Its famous opening, “O Fortuna,” is sure to enthrall audiences with the power of our two choruses combined into one wall of sound.

We are excited to sing Antonin Dvořák’s Te Deum, a stirring drama combining exquisite solos and jubilant choruses. It premiered in New York in 1892, launching Dvorak’s American sojourn. (Listen for the sound of his ship crossing the ocean!)

Set against the brilliant stained glass of O’Byrne Chapel at Manhattanville College, the drama of these two pieces will reverberate long after the final notes are sung. Brought together by mutual Artistic Director David Baranowski, Hudson Chorale and Westchester Choral Society are delighted to partner again to present these masterworks.
