A Beast That Came Apart Mid-Air: A performance & discussion with Kayla Farrish and collaborators
This work-in-progress performance features excerpts from A Beast That Came Apart Mid-Air, a new dance-theater production. It follows three Black femmes of the diaspora as they navigate history and reimagine possibilities for liberation through magical realism and resistance. Unfolding across the Black American landscape of survival, these characters repurpose resilience in a cathartic process of dismantling power. Through immersive storytelling, possibilities rise as they ask, “What if disempowered people could manifest their visions?”
The performance features scenes that combine dance, theater, film, memory, and archive, developed during Kayla Farrish and collaborators’ residency at The Pocantico Center.
Following the performance, the artists will lead a community-building discussion with the audience on how we can build the conditions that will support us today and in the future.
This event will be followed by a reception in the DR Center Gallery, now showing Shen Wei: Still/Moving.
All sales final. The snow day for this event is Friday, February 27, 2026. Refunds are not available if guests are unable to attend the event, should it be rescheduled to the snow date.
