Wax & Play: An Introduction to Creating Texture with Encaustics Workshop with Rebecca Dunn

This encaustic workshop is designed for creatives who want to add texture to their artwork with a low-risk, high-play introduction to the medium of encaustic. Participants will work from their existing artwork —not originals—allowing for freedom to experiment without the pressure of ruining a finished piece.

Before the workshop, artists will email two images of their artwork to Rebecca. Rebecca will professionally print and mount each print onto a wood panel in advance. Each participant will receive two 8–10” wooden panels to experiment with during the session and then take home. During the class, Rebecca will guide artists through the fundamentals of encaustic wax, including applying encaustic medium, building texture, and incorporating pan pastels for pops of color. The workshop emphasizes process, layering, and discovery—creating a social, supportive environment where artists can expand their practice and leave with new tools to expand their current process.

All supplies are included, but if you have any tools in mind to experiment with, feel free to bring them. 

This workshop is limited to 8 participants.

About Rebecca Dunn

Rebecca Dunn is a contemporary artist and educator known for her approachable, process-driven teaching style. She exhibits in regional galleries including Peep Space (Nyack, NY), The Gallery at Yellow Studio (Cross River, NY), and Arbor Gallery (Carmel, NY). In addition to her studio practice, Rebecca curates and supports community-based art initiatives as a board member of the Katonah Museum Artists’ Association and the Katonah Art Walk. With years of experience guiding creatives into new mediums, Rebecca’s encaustic workshops invite artists to explore wax with curiosity rather than perfection—creating space for experimentation, conversation, and shared discovery.
