Hoff-Barthelson Faculty Showcase Guitar and Chamber Masterworks in November Concert

Hoff-Barthelson Music School continues its 2025–26 HB Artist Faculty Concert Series with an evening celebrating the brilliance of European masters performed by the School’s acclaimed faculty on Friday, November 21, 2025, at 7:30 pm in the School’s Joan Behrens Bergman Auditorium in Scarsdale.

The HB Artist Series offers audiences an intimate encounter with exceptional performances by Hoff-Barthelson’s distinguished faculty, underscoring the School’s enduring commitment to musical excellence and cultural enrichment in Westchester County.

“Each concert in the Artist Series highlights the depth and diversity of our faculty,” said Gabriella Sanna, Executive Director of Hoff-Barthelson Music School. “Their performances inspire our students and enrich our community, bringing to life the School’s mission to nurture creativity, foster excellence, and share the joy of music. This program—with its blend of Ravel’s elegance, de Falla’s intensity, Grieg’s lyricism, and Fanny Mendelssohn’s radiant energy—beautifully captures the range and spirit of what makes Hoff-Barthelson so special.”

Program Highlights

  •  Maurice Ravel – Pavane pour une infante défunte (arr. Emilio Pujol)
  • Manuel de Falla – La vida breve (arr. Emilio Pujol)
Performed by Jonathan Trotta and Andrew Marino, guitars
These luminous Spanish arrangements capture the refinement of Ravel’s nostalgic Pavane and the fiery emotion of de Falla’s La vida breve, translated with exquisite sensitivity for two guitars.
  • Edvard Grieg – Selections from the Peer Gynt Suite No. 1, Op. 46 (arr. Seth Himmelhoch)
Performed by Andrew Marino and Jonathan Trotta, with guest artists Seth Himmelhoch, and Stuart Klinger, guitars
Grieg’s beloved orchestral suite—famous for its vivid storytelling and rich Nordic color—is reimagined for guitar ensemble, highlighting both the instrument’s warmth and the faculty’s interpretive range.
  • Fanny Mendelssohn – Piano Trio in D minor, Op. 11
Performed by April Johnson, violin; Peter Seidenberg, cello; Tomoko Uchino, piano
A radiant work of Romantic lyricism and rhythmic vitality, Mendelssohn’s Trio in D minor showcases the composer’s gift for expressive melody, lush harmonies, and compelling chamber dialogue.
