Federico Uribe: Fanasty River

In a summertime extravaganza, the Hudson River Museum presents a dramatic new 3-dimensional landscape inspired by the dreams of one artist.

This summer, children at the Hudson River Museum will find a fantasy river and animals drawn from the fertile jungle and fertile imagination of Colombian artist Federico Uribe. His focus on fantasy is mixed with the real concern for a vanishing environment; its lands, waters, and animals.
Uribe creates his site-specific 5,000 square foot installation, filling the Museum’s galleries with the flowing “water” of a winding river, planting its banks with rows of “corn,” made from shovel handles, a “boat” built of suitcases (a must for travel), bright birds in flight, and creatures made from pipes, scraps of fabric, swatches of leather from soccer balls and shoes, to name a few of Uribe’s favorite things.
