In Words and Music: The Story of Yiddish Theatre

In her program “In Words and Music: The Story of the Yiddish Theatre,” Dr. Cypkin tells—through English narration—the story of this fascinating theatre singing (in Yiddish) many of the memorable songs written and/or popularized by unforgettable greats like Avrom Goldfadn, Boris Thomashefsky, Aaron Lebedev, Joseph Rumshinsky, Alexander Olshanetsky, Jennie Goldstein, Abraham Ellstein, Jacob Jacobs, Sholom Secunda, Menashe Skulnik, Herman Yablokoff, the Barry Sisters, and more . . .   She also notes the valuable artistic contributions made by dramatic greats like Jacob P. Adler, Jacob Gordin, Bertha Kalish, Keni Liptzin, Maurice Schwartz, and Jacob Ben-Ami.  Indeed, this concert/lecture is a tribute to the Yiddish Theatre we all know and love. Pianist Lena Panfilova will accompany Dr. Cypkin.
