TACONIC OPERA: Two rare oratorios in one program: SAINT-SAËNS and POULENC, Cortlandt Manor, NY (Matinees March 22 & 23, 2025)

What better way to celebrate the re-opening of the Notre Dame Cathedral than with a concert of sacred music featuring two beloved French composers.

Currently in its 27th Season and past recipient of the ArtsWestchester Organization of the Year Award, Taconic Opera invites you to a program that includes two of the most beautifully written yet rarely performed oratorios of the choral repertoire by two of France’s most renowned composers:  Camille Saint-Saënz’s Requiem and Francis Poulenc’s Stabat Mater.

Fans of Saint-Saënz’s widely performed Christmas Oratorio will also be excited by his Requiem. The Stabat Mater by Poulenc is equally moving and gorgeous.  Each piece contains a component that makes it special: for the Requiem, it is the vibrant Gloria that lifts our spirit from the first few notes; for the Stabat Mater, it is a sumptuous soprano solo that elevates the whole composition to be perhaps Poulenc’s greatest choral achievement.

Both performances will include professional lead singers, the Taconic Opera Orchestra and Chorus, and will be conducted by the company’s General Director, Dan Montez.

The works will be performed at the St. Columbanus Catholic Church, 122 Oregon Rd, Cortlandt Manor, on Saturday, March 22 at 2:00 pm, and Sunday, March 23 at 3:00 pm.  This wonderful venue has its own parking and is handicap accessible.
