Behind the Label: Fashion, Labor, and Social Justice

|

Join fashion historian Keren Ben-Horin and multidisciplinary artist Ella Kandel for a conversation exploring the fashion industry’s impact on workers and the environment. Kandel’s research-based project Unmade delves into the shadow labor of fashion, using evocative imagery, X-ray imaging of textiles, and analysis of garment labels to reveal how fast fashion intersects with social justice issues, including gender and racial inequality. Ben-Horin, co-author of She’s Got Legs and a PhD candidate in History at NYU, and Kandel, an award-winning artist with a focus on installation and sculpture, will discuss how contemporary art connects to the history of labor and fashion’s evolution.

Simultaneous ASL interpretation will be provided.
