Westchester Philharmonic presents What’s the Frequency?
Danail Rachev, conducting
George Antheil: Serenade
Mozart: Violin Concerto No. 5
Schubert: Symphony No. 5
What’s the frequency? It’s a half-step between Mozart’s A Major concerto (in the magnificent hands of Bella Hristova, making her third appearance with us) and Schubert’s B-flat Major Symphony. But if you were to ask American composer George Antheil during World War II about his music, he would not have provided an answer. This multi-disciplinary genius teamed up with actress (and multi-disciplinary genius) Hedy Lamarr to develop an encryption system utilizing musical frequencies that could guide Allied torpedoes against Nazi U-boats. It became the foundation for how telecommunications work today. Danail Rachev returns to bestow his special conducting gifts upon all of it.
