Performance Art: Circumambulation (Pradakshina)

Join multimedia artist Anindita Dutta for a performance intervention inspired by her work, Sex, Sexuality, and Society — Grenada, on view in No Bodies: Clothing as Disruptor. Dutta’s dynamic exploration of movement, ritual, and social commentary aims to ignite contemplation and dialogue on sex, sexuality, and societal issues.

The performance centers on the ritualistic act of circumambulation (the ceremonial act of walking or going about or around), a practice deeply ingrained in various cultures and spiritual traditions. At its center is the sanctum sanctorum, a pile of clothes, shoes, and ornaments that have borne the weight of abuse, pleasure, or both—an imaginary repository of memories carrying stories of pain and resilience. The act of circumambulating these soulful materials serves as a catalyst, awakening the hidden experiences embedded within them.
