Balourdet String Quartet with Adam W. Sadberry, flute
This concert features the textures of stringed instruments coupled with a wind instrument: the Balourdet String Quartet with Adam W. Sadberry, flute.
Angela Bae, violin; Ben Zannoni, viola; Russell Houston, cello and Justin DeFilippis, violin, are graduate quartet artists in residence at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music and winners of the Chamber Music America Cleveland Quartet Award and an Avery Fisher Career Grant, both in 2024.
Their program will include Haydn’s String Quartet in D Major, Op. 64, No. 5 “The Lark,” and Smetana’s String Quartet No. 1 in E minor, “From my Life.”
They will team up with Sadberry on Amy Beach’s Theme and Variations for Flute and String Quartet, Op. 80. This virtuoso flutist was a member of the Detroit and Memphis symphony orchestras, and named one of 23 “artists to watch” in 2023 by the Washington Post. Sadberry has an equally active career as a coach, mentor and speaker.
