Monday Night Poetry Workshop: Cathedral of Deadbolts: Unlocking Poems on Self & Family with Joan Kwon Glass (via Zoom)
How can we challenge ourselves to dig deep when it comes to the complexities of identity, our memories and family histories? What connections can we draw between our histories, current realities, possible futures and the world at large? In this generative workshop series, we will draw inspiration from science, news articles, memoir, fiction & works of art alongside poets who have revolutionized writing on identity–visionaries who changed the way that we read and offer us keys to our cathedrals of deadbolts. Instructor will also offer written feedback on individual poems following each week’s class. Readings will include Walt Whitman, Natalie Diaz, Suji Kwock Kim, Tiana Clark, Anne Sexton, Kaveh Akbhar, Franny Choi & many others.
*”Cathedral of deadbolts” comes from the poem “Letter From My Heart to My Brain” by Rachel McKibbens
