Henri Matisse: Abstract Collage Workshop

Create an abstract collage with painted papers cut in shapes and pasted down on watercolor paper. Be inspired by Henri Matisse (French, 1869-1954) and work with bold, bright colors and shapes! Matisse was a pioneer of modern art and at the end of his life, he became a collage artist and stated that he “painted with scissors.” The workshop will include a discussion about Matisse’s collage work and media (specifically his cut-outs), a demonstration, tips on technique and individual guidance. In advance of the workshop, students will receive an email with an introduction to the workshop and how to create painted papers for the class. All levels are welcome to attend.
