Using Language as Immediacy Instrument & Mystery Machine: A Generative Workshop with Jennifer Militello (via Zoom)

How can we use language to cast occasions that may seem to lie beyond language? How can we suggest those edges of experience through a push of invention and surprise? In this workshop, we will read poems that employ image, metaphor, and music to prioritize the instinct over the intellect, and take part in writing exercises that allow us to refresh our sense of how language can be composed and aligned.

NB: This craft class will be held on Zoom. It will be capped at 20 students. Scholarship information will be available in January and will be be due on February 15th. Please read the course policies page before signing up for any of our workshops.

Jennifer Militello is the author of six books of poetry and nonfiction, including, mpst recently, The Pact (Tupelo Press, 2021) and Knock Wood (Dzanc Books, 2019), winner of the Dzanc Books Nonfiction Award. She teaches in the MFA program at New England College.
