The Art of Paying Attention with Anna Potter on Zoom
What daily observations do you make that can be recorded and developed to be included on the page? Do you have an obsession that you can use in your writing? In this one-day, two-hour generative class. we’ll explore how to strengthen your writing with astute observations from your own life. We’ll start with a brief exploration of Marilynne Robinson’s Housekeeping, a master class in finding drama in the mundane. From ice floes to the smell of melting snow to the taste of tinned sardines, Robinson employs a rich array of compelling imagery to power the quiet drama of unresolved grief. Then we’ll do several generative exercises to develop our powers of observation and stretch our metaphorical possibilities.
