“ABSTRACTIONS” A Virtual Photography Exhibition by The Ground Glass

“ABSTRACTIONS”

A Virtual Photography Exhibition
by The Ground Glass

The Ground Glass, a Westchester-based association of fine art photographers, will be hosting “ABSTRACTIONS” a virtual photography exhibit by members.

Abstract photography is depiction of a visual image that does not have an immediate association with the object world.  The abstract image may be produced using traditional photographic equipment such as a camera or, by more contemporary means, with a computer.  In other cases, it may be created by manipulating film,  photographic paper or materials in the darkroom.

An abstract photograph may isolate a fragment of a given environment in order to disguise its inherent context from the viewer or it may be staged to create a seemingly unreal appearance from real objects.  The image may also use color, light, shadow, texture, shape or form to convey the feeling or impression intended by the artist.

The Ground Glass, established in 1975, is an independent association dedicated to promoting the practice and appreciation of fine art photography in Westchester County, NY, and Fairfield County, CT. It serves as a forum for photographers to express ideas, share technical information and participate in juried exhibitions. The group also addresses issues concerning photography through lectures, demonstrations and workshops. The Ground Glass currently conducts its monthly meetings via Zoom sessions. When the coronavirus pandemic subsides, the group plans to resume its monthly in-person meetings at the Rye Arts Center, Rye, NY.
