October 30 – November 20 / 4 weeks
Course Description
Every time we touch clay we are connecting with thousands of years of history from makers from around the world. In this new historical clay class, you will select an iconic, historic ceramic object on the first day of class to study and replicate. CAC will supply the research materials along with ceramic materials that best correspond with the archetypical object. Better understand types of clay used, forming techniques, available pigments at that time, size and more.
Sankofa translates to “Go back and get it” in the Twi language, is a metaphorical symbol used by the Akan people of Ghana, generally depicted as a bird with its head turned backward taking an egg from its back. It expresses the importance of reaching back to knowledge gained in the past and bringing it into the present in order to make positive progress.
