Inside the NEU: Patrice Giasson with Engels the Artist
“Art That Pushes Boundaries and Raises Important Questions”
A Pre-recorded conversation
Tuesday, June 16, 11 a.m.
During this lively session between Dr. Patrice Giasson, Alex Gordon Curator of Art of the Americas and Engels the Artist, you’ll have a front row seat as the two discuss Art Got Into Me: The Work of Engels the Artist, a ten-year survey of the artist’s work that was on view at the Neuberger Museum in the fall, 2019. Engels, a Haitian-born, self-taught artist, builds his canvases with wood, paper, found objects, layers of paint, crumpled and torn canvas. Even staples function as paint. He says he can create with anything: “I did not get into art; art got into me.” Giasson and Engels will discuss what inspires and influences the artist, and how his work and techniques have evolved through the years. Then, viewers can take a virtual walk through the exhibition and listen as Engels recalls his gratifying Artist-In-Residence experience at Purchase College.
The program will be available to the public on Tuesday, June 16, 11 a.m. on the museum’s website at https://www.purchase.edu/neuberger-museum-of-art/neu-to-do/
