Isaac Julien, Western Union: Small Boats
One of Isaac Julien’s most important works, Western Union: Small Boats is a dramatic video installation that focuses on the dangerous journeys across the Mediterranean taken by so-called “clandestines” who leave Libya to escape war and famine. The film was created in 2007 but resonates today with issues of immigration dominate the news. Organized by the Neuberger Museum of Art and co-curated by Helaine Posner, Chief Curator, and Louise Yelin, Purchase College Professor Emerita, Literature. Generous support has been provided by the Roy R. Neuberger Legacy Program Endowment.
