ART HISTORY WITH A TWIST: EROTIC OR NOT? SEX IN ART

Artist and art historian Marcy B. Freedman returns to Hudson Valley MOCA to present three new lectures that focus on the ways in which art confronts human behavior.

Jeff Koons was not the first artist to exploit our voyeuristic tendencies! The ancient Romans depicted erotic themes, Medieval scribes placed sexual drawings in the margins of manuscripts, Renaissance artists found excuses to represent orgies, and Rococo artists satisfied the desires of the aristocracy for titillating imagery. These trends continued into the modern and contemporary eras.
