Taconic Opera – First time in this area: Mozart’s Abduction from the Seraglio, October 19 & 20

Taconic Opera celebrate its 22^nd  season with another exciting event in October, Mozart’s hilarious German “tragicomedy,” Abduction from the Seraglio. Two matinee performances will be held on Saturday, October 19, 201, at 3:30 pm, and Sunday, October 20, 2019, at 2:00 pm at the Yorktown Stage, 1974 Commerce St., Yorktown Heights. Nothing compares to being at a live production and experiencing up close the thrilling, fully professional cast and orchestra, without all the fuss, time and expense of traveling too far from home. Supertitles above the stage make your enjoyment even greater.

When Mozart (age 26 at the time) presented this opera to the Austrian Emperor, it was beyond anything the public had ever heard before, provoking the famous line of the Emperor in the movie Amadeus:  “Too many notes. Just cut a few and it will be perfect.”  Taconic Opera General Director Dan Montez has finally found the perfect cast to perform this brutality difficult but beautiful creation that raised Mozart to an entirely new level of maturity as a composer. Abduction from the Seraglio is a hilarious story about two men rescuing two women from a Turkish harem (the Seraglio) where the women are being held after being kidnapped. Unlike most other operas, Seraglio contains dialogue in ENGLISH that is spoken and not sung, and songs in GERMAN (with supertitles above the stage).

A wide range of ticket prices are available: $32-$66 in advance, $35-$69 at the door: $5 reduced for all seniors; $5 per tickets reduced for groups of 5 or more. Reductions can be taken together.
