Gallery Reception: From the Schoolyard to the River Beach: A “Nature Girls” Art Exhibit with Strawtown Studio at Teatown

|

Inspiring for children and adults alike, this creative exhibition highlights the discoveries and art creations of the Nature Girls, through the seasons and over the years. The nature-art captured in this exhibit will further inspire the visitor to see the beauty of the Hudson Valley through a new artistic lens.

Nature Girls is an education program developed by Teatown that encourages girls to get out into nature, develop an interest for natural science, as well as self-confidence and cooperation. For the past six years, by invitation, Hudson Valley-based Strawtown Studio artists/educators have been collaborating with
Teatown to bring their nature-art education specialty to the “Nature Girls.” Primarily for 5th graders, the experiences featured in the exhibit include school-yard, park, and river exploration on the shores of the Hudson at the Kathryn W. Davis RiverWalk Center in Sleepy Hollow.

Teatown is a nature preserve and environmental education center in the Lower Hudson Valley. Managing 1,000 acres, Teatown is the largest independent community-supported nature preserve in Westchester County. Strawtown Studio is a place-based, art and nature not-for-profit organization which provides programs for young people to experience creativity, skill-building, and shared outdoor exploration.
