Through Our Eyes: Milestones and Memories of African Americans in Yonkers—An Exhibition at the Hudson River Museum

Through Our Eyes: Milestones and Memories of African Americans in Yonkers showcases more than 100 years of photographs and objects donated by African Americans whose significant public achievements and poignant personal moments that have helped to make Yonkers the vibrant city that it is today. From Francis J. Moultrie, a prominent caterer in the late-nineteenth century, to State Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins today, numerous individuals have achieved success and built a strong and connected community. The exhibition is the result of a year-long project to collect and celebrate important stories and everyday moments in this community and a commitment to equity in representation in the Museum’s collection.

This exhibition is accompanied by Can I Get A Witness: Photographs by Herb Snitzer, on view May 31–August 18. These two exhibitions demonstrate the Museum’s ongoing commitment to making our collections and program offerings more inclusive and representative of the communities we serve.
