American Modern Opera Company: Anthony Roth Costanzo, countertenor; Paul Appleby, tenor; Matthew Aucoin, piano
This recital marks the debut of Veils for Desire, created by members of the American Modern Opera Company, an exciting new collective of some of today’s most gifted, curious, and innovative artists and recently named one of “19 for 19 Artists to Watch” by WQXR. Built around Britten’s dramatic canticle Abraham and Isaac, the program features works that “veil” or transform an unspeakable desire into a new, mysterious form. Also included are songs composed specifically for each of these extraordinary singers, including a world premiere by Harold Meltzer and music by AMOC Co-Artistic Director and 2018 MacArthur Fellow Matthew Aucoin.
