‘Music on a Sunday Afternoon’

A group within the Hudson Valley Singers, the Chamber Singers, bring their “Music on a Sunday Afternoon” program to people otherwise unable or unlikely to experience professional quality classical choral music.  At about 40-60 minutes the concerts are somewhat shorter than conventional concerts, a timeframe designed to accommodate the physical or other limitations of some groups. 

The programs are diverse, developed specifically to introduce music that is familiar to some, but new to many. The current repertoire of 40+ selections in multiple languages and genres continues to grow. A non-singing Narrator researches every musical selection and, when appropriate, provides an educational enhancement to the performance with informative and often humorous anecdotes.

The Chamber Singers provide free concerts to local underserved groups (including elderly, challenged, low income, youth, ethnic groups) at non-traditional, relaxed, informal settings easily accessed by diverse audiences, where everyone can experience the pleasure of beautiful music.

Frequently, family members coordinate their visits so they can attend “Music on a Sunday Afternoon” with residents of the facility.  Where appropriate, the Chamber Singers have offered child care during the performances, and light refreshments afterward.

To date, The Chamber Singers have performed close to 50 concerts, many of which were return engagements requested by the venues.
