Writing the Dream with Fred Marchant

Just think of how many dreams you have during any given week or month! Think of the imaginative energy that pours into, and emanates from, those images and stories. Think too of how that imaginative energy might be harnessed or otherwise brought to bear on new poems and in your writing process in general. In our one-day intensive workshop we will read and discuss some dream-related poems, and with an eye on the dream-image, the dream-story, the nightmare, and the vision. But ultimately our focus for the day will be on the work you bring to the table. I’d like you to bring two poems that to your mind have within them some element (s) drawn from your dreams. We will examine these poems in detail and discuss some of the many ways in which we can employ the energies of dreams in these and in future poems. Our goal will be to reveal heretofore untapped imaginative and linguistic possibilities for your work. Please bring sufficient copies of your poems to share with the group.
