Lincoln Michel Craft Talk – Technologies of the Unreal
From the chimeras of ancient mythology to the imagery of modern surrealists, literature has always been infused with the weird. This craft talk will look at the history of the uncanny and the weird in different genres of fiction, and explore the techniques and tricks that writers can use to make the strange feel real and the real seem bizarre.
Lincoln Michel is the author of Upright Beasts (Coffee House Press, 2015) and the co-editor of Gigantic Worlds (Gigantic Books, 2015), an anthology of science flash fiction, and Tiny Crimes (Catapult, 2018), an anthology of short crime fiction. His fiction and criticism appear in The New York Times, Granta, Vice, Guernica, The Guardian, The Pushcart Prize Anthology, and elsewhere.
