Westchester Oratorio Society presents Bach’s “St. John Passion”

Westchester Oratorio Society, Benjamin Niemczyk, Artistic Director, presents Bach’s “St. John Passion” at the South Salem Presbyterian Church. The concert begins at 3 pm and will be followed by a reception in the Church’s Community Hall.
The society will be accompanied by the critically acclaimed, young early music ensemble, Sonnambula. Praised as “superb” by The New Yorker, Sonnambula has been garnering significant praise for performances at venues including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Frick Collection and Alice Tully Hall. The core members are Elizabeth Weinfeld, artistic director, Amy Domingues, Shirley Hunt, Jude Ziliak with keyboardist James Kennerley.

Leading an outstanding group of soloists is bass Brian Montgomery who made his Metropolitan Opera debut in 1992 and with 15 years on the international stage has been heard with the major opera companies of the world.  Other soloists will include Stephanie Jabre who was most recently a young artist with the St. Petersburg Opera Company in Florida. The society’s own assistant artistic director Mun-Tzung Wong will sing alto, and the demanding tenor role will be performed by Michael Anderson who will be appearing this summer with Opera Sarasota. A recent graduate of the Manhattan School of Music, she was most recently a young artist with the St. Petersburg Opera Company in Florida. Singing the alto role will be the society’s own assistant artistic director Mun-Tzung Wong, an accomplished pianist and soloist, and a sought after vocal coach in NYC. The demanding tenor role will be performed by Michael Anderson, also a graduate of the Manhattan School of Music, who will be appearing this summer with Opera Sarasota. Previously he was a Studio Artist at Central City Opera, and sang with Wolf Trap Opera in 2015 and 2014.

Westchester Oratorio Society is known for its performances of early music, traditional choral masterworks and contemporary pieces before local audiences with professional soloists and instrumentalists, and collaborations with premier groups and artists such as Tiffany Consort and REBEL Baroque Ensemble, as well as its appearances in the New York metropolitan area including with the Brooklyn Philharmonic at Carnegie Hall, the Brooklyn Academy of Music and the Cathedral of St. John the Divine. The group rehearses on Tuesday evenings at the Katonah Village Library.
