Sarah Lawrence College Visual Arts Lecture Series: Arthur Simms

Best known for his found-object sculptures composed of everday objects such as bicycle wheels, bottles, stones, chairs, rope, and wire, his work connects the disparate elements of the diasporic experience. Jamaican by birth, Simms resides in Brooklyn. His work has been presented at the Jamaica Pavilion at Venice Biennale, Venice, Italy, as well as numerous museums including the Brooklyn Museum of Art., the Neuberger Museum, and the American Academy in Rome. Arthur is a 2007 recipient of the prestigious Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Award. He has also received a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Joan Mitchell Foundation Grant, as well as the Prix de Rome, among other important grants.
