Open Classroom: Guitar Ensemble at Neuberger Museum
The Purchase Guitar Ensemble is a versatile group of guitarists who perform together regularly on and off the Purchase College campus. Under the direction of Dr. João Luiz Rezende, the college’s head of Guitar Studies, the students prepare two programs a year, featuring all the most important works in the guitar ensemble literature. Also an important part of the students’ work in the ensemble is their contribution of arrangements and transcriptions, thus expanding the possibilities of playing music written for piano, strings, and orchestral music. For its special appearance at the Neuberger Museum, the ensemble will perform arrangements and transcriptions of music from Renaissance to contemporary, featuring composers such as Hume, Boccherini, Poulenc, Villa-Lobos, Schubert, as well as original music written by João Luiz Rezende. The concert will offer an overview of some great works as if they were written for the guitar.
