The Sanctuary Series Presents Sounds of the Season with Anthony Newman and the New York Brass Trio

The Sanctuary Series continues its 2016-2017 Season on Sunday afternoon, December 18, at 4 PM with “Songs of the Season,” a special holiday concert featuring internationally acclaimed keyboardist, Anthony Newman playing both organ and piano accompanied by the New York Brass Trio and featuring songs of the season including several selections from Bach’s Christmas Oratorio in all their glory and Mr. Newman’s own interpretations of classic carols, in the Sanctuary of the South Salem Presbyterian Church at 4 PM.

Recognized as “one of the world’s foremost interpreters of Johann Sebastian Bach’s music” by the LA Times, Mr. Newman has been called the “High Priest of the Harpsichord” by Time Magazine and the “High Priest of Bach” by Wynton Marsalis. A sought-after keyboard performer whether on piano, harpsichord or organ, in 2015 he gave a celebrated organ recital at Disney Hall in Los Angeles to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Hall’s massive pipe organ.

The members of the New York Brass Trio, David Glukh, Max Morel and Brian Olson, are among the finest brass players performing in New York today. They have appeared at virtually all the major venues in the metropolitan area. In addition to their individual performance accomplishments, they have brought great energy to chamber music performances with renowned artists including Anthony Newman and Eugenia Zukerman.

Now in its exciting fourth season, The Sanctuary Series continues to present intimate recitals by extraordinary keyboard artists in the pastoral setting of northern Westchester’s historic South Salem hamlet. The season is comprised of seven performances on Sunday afternoons through May. All concerts are followed by an artist reception with wine and cheese.

The spring portion of the Season marks the return by popular demand of virtuoso pianist Jeffrey Biegel and concludes with a special Mother’s Day performance by Croatian born, Westport resident Dalia Lazar, featuring an all-Beethoven program and a Champagne toast for mothers. Three other spring concerts showcase Alice Burla, Mackenzie Melemed and Di Wu, a world-class group of exciting young pianists.

South Salem Presbyterian Church is at 111 Spring Street, South Salem, NY, just 4 miles West of the fountain in Ridgefield CT. Tickets begin at $25 ($15 students) for general admission in advance and subscriptions are available. They can be purchased on the Series’ website www.thesanctuaryseries.org.
