Taconic Opera’s First VIRTUOSI COMPETITION for Young Artists
Currently in its 19th season and past recipient of the ArtsWestchester Arts Organization of the Year Award, Taconic Opera will be hosting its first virtuosi competition on Saturday, November 5, 2016, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the Presbyterian Church of Mount Kisco. Taconic Opera’s Conductor and Music Director, Maestro Jun Nakabayashi, is offering an opportunity to pre-screened young instrumentalists to compete for the prize of performing a full concerto with full orchestra at the company’s April 2017 Chamber Concert. The competition will be opened to the public, and listeners can come and go as they wish and stay for as long as they would like.
Jun Nakabayashi has been active in both the symphonic and operatic fields for almost three decades, and his total repertoire consists of over 100 symphonic works and 30 operas. He currently serves on the staff of the acclaimed Hoff-Barthelson Music School in Scarsdale where he conducts the Festival Orchestra, which was selected by the New York Philharmonic for a unique a teaching partnership, and gives classes in conducting.
