NANDITA RAMAN: If I Had a Hammer
Reception: Tuesday, October 18, 5:30 – 7:30 pm
Gallery Talk: 6:30 pm
Works in this exhibition take a cue from the Pete Seeger performance of If I Had a Hammer for Paul Robeson’s September, 1949, concert near Peekskill, New York, which subsequently erupted into a riot. The utopian desire of the song coincides with the artist’s engagement of the subject, where desire is a human impulse that keeps the wheels turning.
