A Cambodian Lullaby: From Refugee Camp to Project

Sokeo Ros remembers the day that started it all. As a kid, he’d heard his parents stories of the Cambodian genocide  in one ear and out the other, he says. But on this day, in his parents living room, he really listened.

Ross mother told him about the six children before him, older brothers and sisters he never knew existed who didn’t make it out of Cambodia alive. Ros was the first survivor; he was born in the back of an eighteen-wheeler in a Thai refugee camp.

“At the same time they were telling me this, they were holding my eight-month-old daughter,” Ros says, his eyes wet. “I had to walk out of the room a few times.”

The conversation sparked a decade-long quest for self-discovery that culminates in the one-man show.
