Zuill Bailey: Cello
The descriptive phrase “rock star” and the word “cellist” are not often uttered in the same sentence, but the two come to mind to describe the astonishingly talented (and, in the words of one critic, “easy on the eye”) Zuill Bailey. This extraordinary classical cellist is gifted with beautiful tone, fabulous technique, sensitive interpretation, and a dynamic personality.
The American-born Bailey’s calling card to public attention may have been a bit unusual: for half a dozen years he played a murderous cellist on the HBO prison series Oz. At The Center he’ll be “killing” audiences on the cello he calls “J-Lo” in honor of its deep curves.
