Ballet Hispanico

BALLET HISPÁNICO
SATURDAY, JUNE 8, 2019 @ 8PM | DANCE | $60/$50/$40

Ballet Hispánico, the premier Latino dance organization in the United States, will perform three works on the Emelin stage; Sombrerísimo, Con Brazos Abiertos, and Danzòn. Sombrerísimo, choreographed by Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, is inspired by the surrealist world of Belgian painter René Magritte, famous for his paintings of men in bowler hats. In Con Brazos Abiertos, choreographer Michelle Manzanales explores the iconic Mexican symbols that she was reluctant to embrace as a Mexican-American child growing up in Texas. Intertwining folkloric details with a distinctly contemporary voice in dance, set to music that ranges from Julio Iglesias to rock en español, the work is a fun and frank look at a life caught between two cultures. In the final piece Danzón, choreographer Eduardo Vilaro has taken the traditional and quintessentially Cuban dance form and reinvented it with contemporary language to construct a joyous celebration of music and movement.
